We're Ready for Winter Snow & Ice Removal. Are You?

December 16, 2023

Our little snowfall earlier this month reminded us that Jack Frost will be visiting Greater Boston this winter, bringing snow, ice, and possible damage to your roof. While you can't control the weather, you can prevent snow and ice damage to your home. New Stage Home Improvement is here to help you manage the snow and ice load on your roof this winter.

Keep Ahead of Accumulating Snow & Ice

A snowfall or two is not going to put undue pressure on your roof system. But as winter wears on and fresh, fluffy snow turns into a compact, icy mess on your roof, the extra weight can become dangerous. An inch of ice weighs the equivalent of a foot of fresh snow, or about 5 pounds per square inch. Your roof can withstand approximately 20 pounds of pressure per square feet of snow.

As you can see, snow and ice can add up quickly. We recommend homeowners remove snow from their roofs when it exceeds two feet in height. If the snow is particularly heavy, consider clearing your roof before two feet accumulates.

Address Ice Dams Promptly

Ice dams are another danger to your home's roofing system and even the interior of your home if left unaddressed. Ice dams are masses of ice that build up along your gutters. They can cause leaks, rot, and structural damage to your home unless they are removed. If you notice icicles hanging from your roof or a line of bulky ice along your gutters, it's time to call us to have your roof inspected so we can remediate any ice dam issues.

The New Stage Home Improvement team of roofing experts help homeowners in Greater Boston keep their roofs clear and safe all winter long. We're on call 24/7 for snow removal during the winter months. After we remove the snow and ice from your roof, we'll give your roof a thorough inspection to ensure it is free of damage.

New Stage Home Improvement is available for scheduled snow and ice removal as well as emergency service after a storm. You can get a free estimate for snow and ice removal on our website. Be sure to add us to your phone contacts in case you need emergency service. Our number is 888-405-8908.
